The Santa Fe New Mexican published an op-ed written by Andrew Black, Joseph Brophy Toledo, and Carmichael Dominguez stating a powerful argument for legislation that protects the Caja. “The Caja is a prayerful place of rich desert spirituality, solitude and silence and to many New Mexican communities represents a place of home, ancestral history and cultural livelihood.” They explained that protections are necessary to “honor this rich history and protect Hispano traditional land uses while preventing privatization and industrial exploitation that would permanently sever the deep ties that local communities and villages have to the Caja’s land, water and wildlife.” Read the full piece here.
